I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving! - Update on Step 2 Cleansing with Intranasal – 14
Or whatever you choose to celebrate.
Having a cold?
I realized as I came out of the week of December 11th that I had been trying to come down with something. My sinuses could be painful, and I felt kind of punky sometimes.
When this happens, it can be difficult to tell exactly what it is and hard not beat myself up. Am I a slacker, or am I not well enough to go to the gym? Do I really need two naps a day or am I depressed?
Then I go through this whole process of checking in on what I think the problem is and that usually assuages any guilt I might be harboring about being a slacker. Do I have a regular-people cold? Or, have I been accidently slacking off on my mold infection treatments? Did I miss some meds? Did I have sleep issues or some other stress that I hadn’t accounted for? Had I eaten poorly or worked out less?
But no, I’m pretty sure I was just skirting a cold of some sort.
To try and avoid this as much as possible I had my flu shot in early November.
The four-day weekend
As expected, Thanksgiving last week made our schedules fuller than I like but with lots of fun included. We had a great Turkey Day on Thursday and we Christmas shopped on Black Friday and Saturday. No, we were not up waiting in line. We had a meal out and actually went to the mall by our house. It has been years since I could walk around with all the lights, music and holiday crazed people for any length of time without ending up completely wiped. I mean, unable to walk back to the car.
It is a big deal that I was able to do so this year.
Our son-in-law made a lovely turkey feast with all the trimmings. All we had to do is bring a Pumpkin pie, green salad and cranberry relish.
Our daughter made a Keto approved Pumpkin cheese cake, of which I thoroughly enjoyed a piece that day, and one the next.
Abstinence from sugar and exercising
I’ve been working on holding onto my Abstinence from Sugar and doing a good job of it. This month I have only four days that I ate sugar spread out throughout the month. Yay me!
I don’t know if you remember my earlier calendars. This is a big improvement!
Today I returned to Water Aerobics and spent 15 minutes in the Sauna after being gone for nearly two weeks from all of the above.
Preparing for travel
Tomorrow I am going to stop by the local chocolatier’s and pick up unsweetened cocoa dots that I use in my granola bars and will make said bars. Since the week I was feeling poorly I have run out of a lot of my usual food and haven’t had a moment to set them up again.
Thursday and Friday we are out of town for a concert and I am going to pack as much of the right food as I can.
Next week is a three-day Portland trip, Tuesday – Thursday December 4 - 6, and the week following we are in the Seattle area to visit our people Saturday and Sunday December 15 & 16. More food prep and packing!
This is what I usually plan for each day during a trip -
Before breakfast meds.
Oats and barley with my Omega-3 "butter," fruit and flax seed.
After breakfast meds.
Caffeine somewhere in here with my lactose free milk.
11:30 am Granola bar and hard boiled egg with double dose of cleansing medicine drink.
More caffeine somewhere in here with my lactose free milk.
2:00 pm Apple with nut butter and chai seeds with one dose of cleansing medicine drink.
5:00 pm Dinner with one dose of cleansing medicine drink.
*For eating a home cooked meal at somebody else's house I bring 2 cups of veggies and one piece of my "bread" with my "butter" to go with 2 oz. of the protein offered. Sometimes I will have a little potato or rice.
*For eating out I order double vegetables and bring one piece of my "bread" with my "butter" to balance things out.
Nighttime meds.
Take a couple of two-gallon waters for the car.
After that I am looking forward to being home for a bit. It’s more challenging to take care of myself properly when I am out of town beginning with eating well and drinking enough water. It’s harder to remember to take my meds and to get the rest I need. Being on everybody else’s schedule is always a challenge.
It’s also harder to get work done. Somehow my family doesn’t appreciate it when I’m on the computer in the middle of a family gathering. Sigh.
We plan to be around home after that with our other grandson coming down after Christmas.
Next post I will let you know how I met the first set of challenges.
PS – A few years ago I figured out that I need to finish any work I have going on in November and not say yes to anything that I can’t get done by the end of the month. December is always hit and miss, so I do what I can and do not take on any work. January starts out with a bang on the first with my husband’s birthday and after that long weekend I spend a couple of weeks trying to clean up anything that didn’t get done during December.
Around the middle of January I usually am back to my typical pace.
It took me years to figure this out and it is the only way my holidays are sane. Being sick with a mold infection and trying to move at a typical pace, let alone at a holiday pace, is impossible.
Wednesday I ran up to the market to pick up two items my daughter requested for the next day’s Thanksgiving dinner. They live out in the country, so a store is not convenient at the best of times.
I pulled into the parking lot and people were driving around like maniacs! I realized that it was 4 pm the day before a holiday and I just sat there in the car for a few minutes watching people barely miss pedestrians, me and other vehicles. After a few minutes there was calm, and I parked. Then it started up again and I took my life in my hands crossing the parking lot to the store!
Whew! I thought. I must have been just like that at one point in life when we both worked full time, had three kids, a house, extended family, etc. I am so grateful for the peace I enjoy today.
